Help our nurses be there through the night

Donate to our night nurses

Heather's mum wanted to die at home with her family around her.

Her family called Mountbatten in the middle of the night and the nurses were there within 20 minutes. Without Mountbatten, she wouldn't have been able to die at home.

Some people in our community are not aware that Mountbatten’s care doesn’t stop at 5pm. We provide 24-hour, seven-day-a-week free care to patients and families across Southampton and large parts of Hampshire in their own homes.

Every year, a Mountbatten community nurse will have multiple contacts with around 800 patients, either over the phone or in-person visits. Whilst this work is a privilege, it also comes with its challenges and the demand for our specialised care often exceeds our available resources.

As an independent charity, Mountbatten relies on the generosity of the local community to fund its services. Only around a third of our funding comes from the NHS; the rest comes from people like you. Together, we can ensure people in our local communities will face death and dying with a Mountbatten nurse by their side.

Annette and Amber share their stories of how they are there throughout the night, offering advice, support, and medications to people like Heather’s mum.
