Inspired by a house music fan

In 2021, aged just 34 years old, house music fan Ashleen Bateman died in the care of Mountbatten Hampshire.

Just one week earlier, she had fulfilled her dream of becoming a DJ at her very own house music event.

Since then, in her memory, Ash’s husband, Dan Bateman and their close friend, Gareth ‘Chunk’ Nichols, have run The House That Ash Built including performing Ash’s original set.

Over the last four years, they have raised an incredible £28,000 — including at 2024’s festival, which was attended by 400 people and raised nearly £6,000.

Dan said: “Ashleen was the life and soul of every party and she was an avid fan of house music fan.

“She dreamed of becoming a DJ and her legacy continues through The House That Ash Built.

“We’re committed to raising funds for Mountbatten Hampshire and each year, we try to make Ash’s event bigger and better.

“Help us make 2025’s the best one yet!”
