The Mountbatten Hampshire Community Choir will perform a brand new song at the hospice charity’s Light up a Life service in the Frances Sheldon Centre, West End, on Sunday, 14 December.

The song has been written by Nordoff and Robbins music therapist, Kathryn Holt, together with choir members.

Called Light up a Life, it explores remembering and the group’s reflections of Christmas. Over several weeks, the song has been shaped and developed to suit the voices of the choir.

One member called the process — as well as being part of the choir —  deeply rewarding and uplifting.

They added: “Whilst my singing ability is not the greatest, the choir has steered me through what was an exceedingly difficult time of loss and mourning. I have no doubt it helps with my mental health and wellbeing, and learning song lyrics helps keep my brain active.”

The choir, which now numbers around 50 participants, rehearses on Monday evenings at your local hospice, Mountbatten Hampshire.

“I was warmly welcomed to the choir” said another member. “We sing a whole range of songs. It is very uplifting. You just come along and have fun.”

Another added: “Words to describe the choir? Welcoming, fun, inclusive, uplifting and (hopefully!) helping to fundraise for the hospice.”

“I usually leave on a Monday evening feeling energised and full of life. It definitely makes me feel very happy and I walk out with a spring in my step,” another member said.
