In support of Mountbatten Hampshire, the Mountbatten Players will enchant audiences with their latest family pantomime when they present Sleeping Beauty at The Berry Theatre in Hedge End, this January.

“This pantomime is more than entertainment, it’s a celebration of the connections we share with Mountbatten Hampshire and the families it supports,” says Chris Chandler-Davis, writer and director of Sleeping Beauty.

“We put our heart and soul into every show, and this year’s production promises all the magic of a traditional pantomime with a fresh twist on the classic tale.”

Based in Southampton's West End, the Mountbatten Players' amateur theatre group rehearses at Mountbatten Hampshire's Frances Sheldon Centre and was founded by former hospice staff members. The originators included former trustee Peter Pitcher, Huw Jones, Graham Thorpe and social worker Frances Sheldon, after who the hospice's community centre and cafe was recently renamed.

More about the Mountbatten Players

Their first production, Phantom of the Hospice, sparked a tradition of pantomimes that grew from small-scale shows in Bitterne Hall to productions at Eastleigh’s The Point, for over three decades. Last year, they performed Dick Whittington.

This year, for the first time in their 35 year history, the Mountbatten Players bring their pantomime to the Berry Theatre in Hedge End.

The Players’ bond with Mountbatten Hampshire remains strong.

Rehearsals still take place at the hospice and every show helps raise vital funds.

Many volunteers and original members remain involved, united by a passion for professional standards and community spirit.
