Based in Southampton's West End, the Mountbatten Players' amateur theatre group rehearses at Mountbatten Hampshire's Frances Sheldon Centre and was founded by former hospice staff members. The originators included former trustee Peter Pitcher, Huw Jones, Graham Thorpe and social worker Frances Sheldon, after who the hospice's community centre and cafe was recently renamed. Last year, they performed Dick Whittington. This year, for the first time in their 35 year history, the Mountbatten Players bring their pantomime to the Berry Theatre in Hedge End. The Players’ bond with Mountbatten Hampshire remains strong. Rehearsals still take place at the hospice and every show helps raise vital funds. Many volunteers and original members remain involved, united by a passion for professional standards and community spirit.
