Hundreds of people gathered for Mountbatten Hampshire's annual Light up a Life service, at Southampton's hospice in West End, on Sunday, 8 December, 2024, despite the efforts of Storm Darragh.

Usually held outside the hospice building, the storm's high winds and a yellow 'be aware' Met Office weather warning meant the remembrance event moved inside the Hazel Centre, which is adjacent to our inpatient unit, off Botley Road.

There were readings, delivered by Mountbatten Hampshire's staff, carols and songs performed by the Mountbatten Hampshire choir and the chance to light a candle in memory of loved-ones who are much-missed, this Christmas.

After the event, mince pies and drinks were service by a team of volunteers.

The annual event, a firm fixture in the year for many of those who have been supported by our hospice charity, also included the chance to dedicate a heart to someone who has died.

These are displayed on Mountbatten Hampshire's Christmas tree and can be seen across the festive season.
