Update on the future of Mountbatten Hampshire's charity shop in Southampton's West End As part of an ongoing review of shop leases and sustainability, Mountbatten Hampshire has made the difficult decision to permanently close its charity shop in West End, Southampton, on 21 February 2026, following a full review of the profitability and finances of all its retail outlets. While this chapter comes to a close, your local hospice is actively exploring the possibility of a small retail space in its nearby Frances Sheldon Centre, on its hospice site in West End. Mountbatten Hampshire would like to take this opportunity to say thank you, on behalf of our retail team, for your donations to and purchases from our West End shop. Over the years, your support has been hugely valuable in helping your local hospice raise vital funds for 24/7 compassionate and expert end of life care — for which demand has grown by 71 per cent in the last three years — delivered in homes across Southampton and large parts of Hampshire. We would like to invite you to visit our Hedge End branch (Freegrounds Avenue) — your next closest Mountbatten Hampshire shop. If you would like to donate items to Mountbatten Hampshire, please visit the furniture shop and donation centre in Crosshouse Road, Southampton (near the Itchen Bridge). Becky McGregor, Mountbatten CEO, said: “Decisions like this are never easy, nor taken lightly. They are, however, necessary to ensure Mountbatten Hampshire can continue to provide the highest level of care and support to the growing number of people who need our 24/7 compassionate services. "We remain committed to serving our community and are grateful for the continued support of our staff, volunteers, supporters and customers, in our charity shops.” Above: Mountbatten CEO, Becky McGregor.
