A talented group of musicians from Itchen Sixth Form College are creating an album of self-penned original songs in aid of Mountbatten Hampshire, and they plan to perform them at a popular Southampton pub.

Packed with a wide-variety of musical styles, with something for every taste, their project is called More Life and it will be showcased live on 7 May, at The Joiners in St Marys Street, Southampton.

Three indie bands will also perform songs from Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and Paulo Nutini.

More Life was the idea of student Holly Hopwood, whose beloved nan was looked after by the hospices expert staff. Holly felt so positive about the care her nan received that she wanted to do something to contribute.

Holly said: I’m super grateful for all the bands playing for such a good cause, and I hope the performance is a success.”

The album will be produced by fellow student, Antonio Gama.

Antonio said: The songs are sounding fantastic and I’m looking forward to adding a final polish to the recordings, while learning more about a wide range of music genres.”

Copies of the album will be sold when the students perform, on 7 May.

Based in West End, Southampton, Mountbatten Hampshire supports over 1,600 people in anyone day, in their homes across large parts of Hampshire and in its hospice.

Mountbatten Hampshire is a registered charity which relies on donations for two-thirds of its funding.

The charitys aim is to promote and provide good care and support for people who are living with, affected by or curious about death, dying and bereavement.

Itchen Sixth Form College offers an A Level in music technology as well as a full-time vocational music performance and production course.

Itchen Sixth Forms head of music, Jack Dale said: This project is so exciting because it has been devised by the students and it involves working with Mountbatten, raising some funds for such an important charity.”
