What does being a Mountbatten Hampshire inpatient unit volunteer involve?

As a Mountbatten Hampshire inpatient unit volunteer, you’ll:

  • Talk with patients and their families; offer a friendly presence and a listening ear
  • Serve food and drinks to patients and visitors
  • Take and record meal and drink requests; liaise with the main kitchen
  • Clear trays, plates, cups, and keep the ward kitchen clean and tidy
  • Refill and replace patient water jugs with appropriate glasses/beakers/straws
  • Help with simple tasks like coordinating newspaper requests with the local newsagent
  • Keep an eye on patient and visitor needs throughout your shift
  • Share key information with fellow volunteers at handover

You’ll join an enthusiastic and friendly team, make new friends, and benefit from training and support.

What do you need to become a Mountbatten Hampshire inpatient volunteer?

  • Excellent communication skills and a caring approach
  • Respect for confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • A willing attitude, self‑motivation, and reliability
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Preferably, experience in a healthcare environment

Time commitment:

  • 1 shift per week, between 2–4 hours
  • Shifts available 7:30am–9:00pm, Monday to Sunday

Recruitment checks:

  • Application form, two references, medical questionnaire, enhanced DBS check
  • One‑day induction training before you start
